Namsan and the movie "Worst Woman"
Recently, I saw the movie called 최악의 하루 (English name is "Worst Woman"). There are two main backgrounds in this movie. One of those backgrounds is Namsan (one of the mountains located in Seoul) walking trail. Personally, I really like to go to Namsan walking trail. So after hearing that there is a movie which was shot in Namsan walking trail, I went to the theater right away. After watching the movie, I felt that it's really impressive. Because the story and characters of the movie coordinated so well with Namsan. And then I wanted to know more behind stories about the location. So I researched, and found out that there are specific reasons for Namsan to be in this movie.
First of all, Namsan walking trail is a good place for walking. Because in the movie, the characters walk a lot. They just keep walking while talking to each other. The characters express their emotions while walking most of the time in the movie. After all, walking is a really important factor in this movie. That's why Namsan walking trail is a really good place for the movie literally.
Then why is walking important in the movie? Why are the characters walking at Namsan? According to Kim JongKwan, the director of this movie, he really likes to walk at Namsan walking trail in his daily life. So he wanted to make a movie including the factor of walking at the stage of planning of this movie. He explained that this movie is consist of the settings including temporary time, limited area, and the description of the city. He said that he likes this kind of movie. He also added that there are movies like this, such as Before Sunrise or Midnight in Paris etc. Like he said, when you see those movies, the characters are waking in the city while the story is going on.
Before watching the movie, I didn't know that there are specific reasons for the director to choose Namsan as a movie background like that. From now on, when I go to Namsan, the movie "Worst Woman" will remind me of the Namsan scenes. I think it's really interesting that Namsan feels different to me now after watching the film and knowing behind stories. How influential the place in the movie is to the audience?
